As a general statement, I think it is preferable for children to recover naturally than for parents to have to take on the often onerous business of therapy. Research into the Lidcombe Program indicates that waiting for up to one year after onset is unlikely to lessen the child’s responsiveness to treatment—-should natural recovery not occur during that time. However, the individual circumstances of the child and family must always be taken into account in deciding when to start treatment.
