Dear Judy, the clients who decided not to take part in PEVOS were asked to give reason for their decision. Most of them did not fill in this part of the form but some answered that the they did not see any advantage for themselves by taking part. Some therapists told us that their clients might be too frightened of the telephone calls which were part of our evaluation. My personal impression is that many german therapists who offer stuttering therapy are very interested in the evaluation of their own therapies (and not reluctant at all) as whe have a long waiting list of therapists all waiting for the time when the main phase of PEVOS is going to be implemented. In addition there is a growing pressure from the insurance companies to evaluate therapies of all kinds so besides the professional interest this might be another reason to take part as a therapist.
