It has been really interesting to read the posts here. I was especially pleased to see the comments on acting and public speaking, as well as late onset. I am a pastor who began to stutter seven years ago, after many years of fluent preaching. It is most severe in the pulpit and other public speaking situations, as well as other "formal" settings (court, radio, interviews, etc.) I am almost totally fluent in conversations, on the phone, etc. This began after I left a long pastorate that ended unpleasantly, and moved to another town. My son also left for college at the same time. It's hard to pinpoint this as a cause, even tho it was a major life change. But this is my best guess. Is there any research on adult-onset stuttering, or stuttering following transitions, or trauma, etc.? I have tried various therapies, some of which work for a time, but am still struggling. Thank-you!
