I believe that SLPs and graduate clinicians should be involved in support groups. Stuttering has many similar features, however depending on what the client brings to the table, treatment and resources vary considerably. Because of cleint variables (i.e., negative feelings and attitudes, prior therapy experience, positive/negative situations, etc.), it is very important for treatment providers to broaden their views and knowledge base and be open to making their treatment to be more client centered. Without having a general sense of the differences that exist in a fluency case load, one can do a disservice to their clients. I am a strong supporter in incorporating professionals and clients into a support group setting.
