I think that collaboration between self-help groups and researchers is an important step in further understanding the nature of stuttering, how it may effect decision making, what therapies are successful, etc. I think it will help consumers make informed decisions as opposed to trying the "quick fixes" proposed by T.V. shows, advertisements, etc. In addition, it will help therapists make informed decisions when choosing a therapy technique/strategy. I realize that research proposals must be approved. What are some of the specific guidelines that are used to protect the members of the self-help groups?
