Thanks for your comments. I wrote a book and video that detailed my approach to therapy A Primer for Stuttering Therapy where I describe my approach to therapy. I had hoped that more clinicians and academics would have used the book but it appears that academics who work in stuttering all have their own approach to treatment.
Although I view myself as a fluency shaping clinician, a large portion of my class in devoted the emotional components of stuttering. We do spend a lot of time talking about systematic desensitization, developing hierarchies and implementing these tasks as part of therapy. My approach to therapy includes fluency training, desensitization, and counseling with a focus on rational emotive behavior therapy.
