Leah,

I have found that generally teaching parents positive interaction techniques such as reducing their rate, delayed response are excellent ways to try to get the whole family involved. I also teach those two concepts mostly through modeling to the children in therapy. I also help children to "think" before they talk by modeling and talking about myself doing it in my therapy. Each child seems to need there own refining techniques which need to be individualized depending on what they sound like.
