I like Luc Tielens’s metaphor. He compares stuttering therapy to going to a driving school to learn how to control skids. Experts say that to regain control of the vehicle when driving on icy roads, you have to steer in the direction of the skid even though it's counter-intuitive.

“If you stutter, you can go to a speech therapist not to learn not to stutter, but to learn how to stutter well, to get more control over your speech,” Tielens told the recent IFA conference in Montreal.
