I had a professor who used a metaphor that I now use often in therapy with students. He stated that fluency should not be a tightrope. Students shouldn't be afraid of falling of the fluency tightrope -and shouldn't expect to be on the tightrope at all times. No one could possibly walk on a tightrope forever and not fall off -it's too much pressure. I'm not sure if my professor came up with the metaphor, or if it is from some other source -however I find it useful. Jennifer
