Thanks for the feedback. Actually, the idea of shifting focus comes from a colleague of mine who works primarily with pain management patients. He said that for many people with chronic pain due to accidents, burns, etc., the pain can be reduced somewhat but not eliminated. Focusing more attention on the pain by trying to reduce it can at times become counter-productive, but the person's experience of the pain can be changed if they become immersed in other activities that capture their attention.
