Shifting focus exists in Buddhist and Christian thought, too. Thich Nhat Hanh, the Zen Buddhist mediation teacher and Nominee (by the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.) for the Nobel Peace Prize, talks about watering seeds of love and compassion rather than focusing on eliminating anger and hostility and reminds therapists to help their patients see that even when they are grieving grief is not the only experience available to them. St. Paul speaks of thinking on all things that are good, such as love and compassion, and not on things that are harmful, such as revenge.

Shifting Focus, like all good ideas, seems to be universal.
