I am a 2nd year graduate student who has worked with a handful of PWS. I have found that it is so important to include awareness, attitudes/feelings, and self-talk in therapy sessions. Before you can change speech, a client must be aware of their speech and how it affects them. Sometimes, it may be impossible to use techniques to change speech if the client is in denial or has preconceived notions about how others feel about their speech. I believe that knowing about the psychological aspects that may go along with stuttering is very important to research. These factors may end up having an affect on therapy.
