This article was moving in more ways than one. It reminded me how hindering stuttering behaviors can be - if allowed. I see the fear and hear about the frustration in my brother and husband regarding their stuttering issues. I wish for them all that you speak of in your article: high self-esteem, acceptance, and choice. One seems ready to for acceptance and investment in “self”. The other hasn't bitten yet. He doesn’t seem ready.

As a clinician, I may not be able to make someone "bite" either but need to present opportunities for growth and enable them to make the choice, even if it's a choice to deny self-awareness. Yes? There is such a psychological undercurrent motivating stuttering issues. This both excites me yet presents a great challenge. How do we balance our role as speech clinician with a touch of counseling/psychology? I am inspired to read more about my role as speech counselor.
