I completely agree with your ideas on the importance of self-esteem. I think that positive self-esteem plays an important part in helping us overcome any obstacle we may face in life, such as an illness, stuttering or other communication difficulty, or simple discouragement. Believing that our lives are meaningful and that we can benefit from our efforts at seeking treatment, rehabilitation, or counseling can be the first step in getting better. I think it is important that therapy or counseling be included, or at least advised, in the treatment plan of any patient (one who stutters, or even one who has a physical disability) who displays low self-esteem. We are our own heros at times, and learning to believe in ourselves can make all the difference in the world. Thanks for the insightful article.
