Hi Breena, Thank you for your interest and kind comments. I've only really spoken openly about my stutter during recent years. Although most people were aware of the problems that I experienced, I only chose to confide in a few. Today, I speak openly about my stuttering history at all times. I have completely desensitised myself - I no longer have any hang-ups or shame. I purposely embarked upon a programme of action, where I deliberately raised the subject with total strangers, in shops; on trains/planes; in restaurants; in the street - indeed, anywhere. I was amazed at the genuine interest that they displayed. I only wish that someone had suggested it to me when I was younger. It is such an exhilarating feeling not to retain any embarrassment. I have also progressed to giving talks to community groups, in which I reveal graphic details of the problems that I have experienced throughout my life. I do this in order to create greater public awareness about the difficulties that are faced by persons who stutter. Again, I wish that I had confided in others (including my parents) when I was a child/adolescent. Sharing the problem would have greatly relieved my 'secret' burden. So, in response to your question, I guess that I would have welcomed someone telling me to be more open and not keep it bottled up inside. Kindest regards Alan
