Hi Julie, Communication skills are learned and developed throughout our lives. It's an on-going process. Unfortunately, some persons who stutter tend to remain on the fringes of conversation and social interaction. Understandably, they may be a little deficient in this important area. Inter-personal communication involves so much more than speaking. The wide array of listening skills, together with diverse body language also play an important part. I've studied these closely and have even provided appropriate workshops for persons who stutter. I feel that PWS and 'fluent' people could learn a great deal by researching this subject. On a personal note - do you convey your 'discomfort' when engaged in conversation with someone who is stuttering? If so, may I respectfully suggest that you try to adjust your body language so that he/she sees that you are more at ease. I'm sure that this would be mutually beneficial. Thank you for your interesting contribution. Kindest regards Alan
