Anna, We suggest that you help move parents to problem solving by utilizing the counseling skills that we described in the article, beginning with the important skills of developing a strong relationship with the parents. Relationships are built on trust, and this is not something that is accomplished quickly. Relationship building takes time and patience. When we invite a parent to tell his or her story, we begin the journey toward building a relationship.
