Gene, Many thanks for letting us hear Van and Joe. You really made my morning. Listening to them brought back a flood of memories. Of course everyone, including myself, viewed Van Riper with awe and admiration. But it was really Joe who was my hero. Our relationship was a bit backwards. He was a friend first and later became my therapist. Joe's avoidance reduction therapy and safety margin concept were the corner stones for my recovery process. Of course, Joe's sense of humor made my time with him all the more enjoyable. It's a shame we don't have such great people today. Van Riper and Sheehan showed us that you can have differences of opinion, still be friends, and have a great conversation.
