Thanks for the interesting question, and for your nice comments. The idea of writing a letter to myself in the past had been in the back of my mind for a long time. I think when I was a teenager I would have liked to know how my future was going to work itself out, and I think I would have really welcomed the opportunity to receive a letter such as this (although I would have been naturally skeptical of the authenticity of a letter supposedly coming from the future!) There have been many periods during my life when I was truly wondering how events would turn out, and how problematic areas would resolve themselves. In recent years my life has been dramatically different than it was in the past, with a new positive direction (4 years ago I moved to a new country, Norway, and ended my long-time bachelorhood), and I have thought about my past curiosity in wanting to know how things would turn out. When Judy Kuster asked me to write on the theme of what advice I would have liked to receive during my younger years, the idea of writing this letter seemed like the ideal approach.
