The organization that I work for is piloting a program similar to the PWFS. Our program consists of 5 one-hour parent sessions and 4 one-hour child-parent sessions. The first session, we learned the background of stuttering, types of disfluencies, and brainstormed ways to reduce communication demands. Homework for the first session included taking time each day to practice reducing demands and trying to identify times when their child's disfluecy was most prevalent. Our second session is tonight and we will be working on slowing rate of speech and active listening (if there is time). For another session, I was thinking about addressing how to talk to your child about stuttering and acceptance of stuttering. My question is: What other topics do you feel are most important to cover with the parents? I want them to be interactive and give them a chance to practice their skills. Any suggestions?
