Marty, I agree that shame is such a parlyzing thing. You mentioned that your shame came as a result of over hearing your parents talk about your speech in a discrete voice to others. I would like to add to that. Shame can also be manifested when parents fail to discuss or avoid talking about their child's speech all together, merely pretending that nothing is happening. Not saying anything at all can be just as damaging.
