That is a good question. To my knowledge, no one has compared, say, S + DP with S-only children in terms of communication attitudes and so forth. There are a number of studies on the communication attitudes of children who stutter -- many of these suggest just what you experienced...speech impairments can lead to considerable frustration, embarrassment, teasing, etc., for some children.
