Practical! Dear Katie, I appreciated your comments. As a grad student, can you see where your skills might be right now? I have used this model as a basis for graduate student supervision, and the students seem to love it, because all the feedback is positive. Note that you might be at a different place on the model for different courses – but you can also give yourself a “global” rating for overall competency. I give higher grades to the students who tell me what they would change in a session. Sometimes embarrassed and often upset at their mistakes, they are amazed that I can’t control my enthusiasm for the errors they have made. But then they see, that my response was not for what they did in the session, but for what they consciously identified as needing self correction (whoops!). We both know that the next observation will involve the students use of a pre hoc plan for a better session! I hope you have fun with using the MSAM both personally and professionally.
