I agree with Lynne's comments, but would like to add that you should always do the situation first with your stutterer (faking stuttering) before you ask or expect the stutterer to do it. Speaking both as a clinician and stutterer, it is so important that we "take some of the stutterer's pain," If we can do it without distress the stutterer will admire you for it and he will do it much easier.
