Loved your cake recipe analogy! Your whole article was very accessible to me, the layperson, and boy do I appreciate that! I need this kind of information when searching for support for my son. An aside -- I was struck by the theraputic feeling that pws get when welcoming the sensations of impending disfluency as an opportunity rather than something to fear. I used to be a heavy heavy smoker (18 years)and finally went through a program that helped me quit. The core of the program was to carry cigs with us at all times and to not avoid situations (like with our coffee in the morning or at a bar) that would be the most challenging. We were suppose to welcome the urge to smoke rather than suppress it. That would be the only way we would be empowered to have control over those urges. That was 20 years ago and I haven't smoked since. This seems similar to the experience you are descibing. What do you think?
