Hi, Adrianne. Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I do feel a weight has lifted - but not such a huge weight as it would have been had I tried to lift it 20 years ago. I think life-experience had already nudged me quite a long way along the path of understanding that my stammer really wasn't such a big deal. But yes, being fully open about it has made what weight remains even lighter. As for still using avoidance strategies, I try not to - although the techniques are so automatic it sometimes takes considerable effort to stop myself from slipping into old habits. (John)
