Hi, Julie: Glad you found my piece interesting. --- 'When thinking about what you would write for this writing contest what made you decide that this was going to be the time that you would "come out" about your stammering?' --- Well, the fact that it was going to be published on an open website made 'coming out' something I couldn't avoid. I couldn't tell my story without being open about it - and the whole point of it was to be open, anyway. Plus there was the fact that, at 50, I'd already got a clearer perspective on my stammering problem. When I was a kid, it seemed to be the worst thing in the world... but as you get older, experience things like friends and family dying, see a little more of Life, problems like stammering tend to drop into a more rational slot in the scale of things. --- 'Is writing this article something you are glad you did?' Yes. I think being fully open about it was probably the final step I needed to take to remove its power. Shame I didn't take it years ago - but I guess I simply wasn't ready. Thanks again for your interest. (John)
