The best research that we seem to have is that there is a slight tendency for stuttering to run in families, but I have no evidence that it is 8 times more likely. There is no history of stuttering in my family and yet I have stuttered since early childhood. Two of my three children stuttered briefly as children but now as adults do not stutter. Hope this helps a bit.
