Scott, You have truely labeled it correctly when you call it a "beast." I am sure that all of us stutterers would agree with you. I suspect that it's least understood because of it's complexity and inconsistency. It has baffled mankind since recorded history and will likely continue to do so. None the less we can still treat it with a fair amount of success.
