Hi, Gina: 'Any ideas on how to make the bullies realise the true extent of their words and actions?' --- There's no easy answer to this. I could be glib and say 'expose them to the results of their actions' - and in some cases that may work - but during my teaching career I met quite a few bullies who were so disaffected they were impossible to reach. One of the problems is that showing any form of compassion towards their victims was seen as being 'soft' - there was strong peer-pressure to be seen as the tough guy that nobody can control. It's bad news for all concerned - including the bullies themselves. Many of the more difficult boys I used to teach ended up spending time in prison, and it was pretty obvious they were heading in that direction when they were 11, 12, 13 etc. (John)
