Hi Gina, I was incredibly moved by your brave and poignant article. Bullying is one of the things that can truly strike fear into most parents, so your guidance is invaluable. Thank you so much for writing it. One of my children has mild cerebral palsy, is pretty introverted and has difficulty making friends (whether this is related to his CP, I don’t know.) Me and my husband have always been very open with him and his brother and try to talk about everything, but I always fear he may become a target for bullies. Hopefully this will never happen, but what do you advise parents to do, if they do find out their child is being bullied? When you told your father about bullying, how would you have liked him to respond? Also, how did you make that turning point in your life, when you decided that enough was enough?
