Dear Gina, Thank you for sharing your story with us and for taking an active role in trying to prevent things that like from happeing to other children! In your paper, you had said that self-consciousness is what silenced you, rather than stuttering. You also mentioned that even the most popular kids who appear to have hight self-esteems can be experiencing bullying as well. Besides parents being available for communicating with children, can you offer any other suggestions that we, as speech therapists, can do to help the children we work with develop positive self-esteem and confidence. I am working with a young boy right now who appears extremely self-confident and popular, but as you said, one can never know, and with any child, I feel that it is important to continually boost self-esteem and confidence. What would have been helpful for you? Thank you for sharing.
