Hi Sarah, Thank you for your generous remarks. I, too, think that it is important for PWS to share their experiences with persons involved in speech-language pathology. I have spoken to several classes of SLP student graduate clinicians – I think such exchanges are to our mutual advantage. You enquire how clinicians working with children may help them to overcome negative emotions/thoughts at an early age. I feel that it is important that they are encouraged to be more open, and accepting, about their difficulties. I also believe it would help if they became aware how to deal with negative self-talk, which can be so damaging. The average person apparently receives 50,000 thoughts each day, 80% (40,000) of which are negative. That is quite a staggering figure and can be so detrimental to our lives. I wish I had known (at an early age) that non-avoidance greatly fuelled my stutter. You may also wish to read my earlier response to Jack about these matters. It has been a pleasure to share my story with you and others. Kindest regards Alan
