I wanted to thank you for your article. I am a 26 year old graduate student and I have lived as a covert stutterer since the age of 7, I think. Although I tried many methods to deal with my stuttering onmy own, I have never undergone formal speech therapy with the exception of 6 sessions which did not go further than a basic evaluation of my speech issues. For the first time in my life, I am trying to deal with this directly--I am filled with immense shame, sadness, depression, and I feel lost--as though I dont know how will be able to do this. I was wondering if you could share a bit more about what triggered you to stop hiding...
