This is a great article. I am studying to be an SLP. You mention in your article how horrified you were when it was "shoved" in your face that you had a speech disorder. I'm particularly interested in finding out how to present a diagnosis to a client so that 1) it is less difficult and shocking emotionally to the individual that it impacts (is this possible?), and 2) that they remain open to treatment. How did the SLP that you were working with broach the subject with you? How would you have preferred the SLP to break the news? Did he/she offer any avenues of support? If so, what were they and were they useful? Thanks very much.
