Hi Sophie, Yes, you understand this correctly. For the individuals that stutter for some non-genetic reason, there is no increased chance their children will stutter, above the general risk of stuttering in the population. The unknown causes I refer to are those that underlie the common developmental stuttering. Head trauma appears to be a very rare cause, only at work in cases of acquired stuttering.
