Hi Maria, While I'd like to take credit for the iceberg analogy of stuttering, that was really Joe Sheehan's idea in about 1970. To be honest, my main contribution to that analogy is the creation of that really cool iceberg picture (gotten from the internet of course) and the ship and words which make up that stuttering analogy. As you can see, I like that sort of stuff! (smile) .... The Matrix idea really was my original contribution. I'm an engineer and thinking in terms of graphs is pretty much second nature to me. (But I'm probably in the minority there! Ha, ha!) When I began to investigate the strange phenomena of "covert stuttering" in about 2002, I was amazed at how parallel covert stuttering was to the density of an iceberg. The more dense the iceberg, the more covert the stutterer. Then I began to play with charting the top and bottom of the iceberg (another view of density), and lo and behold the stuttering matrix emerged! Not only does it legitimize the existence of covert stuttering but it also shows all the other different types of stuttering. I was amazed as anyone else to see this picture emerge. And once we can see the different types, we can begin to see how each different types of stuttering need different mixtures of therapy. Hey, it makes sense to ME! (smile) And I'm glad it seems to make sense to others as well. ..... Good luck in school, Maria. And thanks for your comments on my paper. ...... Russ
