Interesting question, Alan. I think one reason there are so many women in our field is that a lot of its history has been associated with elementary education, a field, at least in the past, which attracted more women than men. A "helping profession" often also attracts more women than men because there are other professions where one can earn a lot more money. Speech-language pathology hasn't been a field where one necessarily earns a great deal of money. I know of a sales person for a cosmetic company who earned $600,000 last year! She also drives a free pink Cadillac! That will never happen in my field! Judy
