Hi Thank you for the informative article. These types of drugs are appearing to target more specific areas than ever before, with less side affects. Looking at a more therapeutic approach or as with myself (pws) a more personal opinion. I find more fluency gains when I am in a relaxed state, but at the same time equally very alert. Out of a clinical situation this level of alertness and relaxation is not always easily achievable. Although not an SDA I have been taking Atenolol for a number of years and find this of benefit to achieve this state, and with very much improved fluency to boot. Atenolol is primarily aimed at high blood pressure with hypertension and to an apparent lesser known degree is used by persons such as performing pianists etc. As a question, even though Atenolol may not be used so very widely in psychiatry you may like to make a brief comment on its area of action keeping us as stutterers in mind. It should be noted that I have also had extensive therapy in the past. Kind regards Jim Clarkson Australia
