Hello BN, The SDAs are not used on an as needed basis, as the effects are most likely related to a steady-state concentration of the medication exerting its effect over of period of time. This is noted clinically as the SDAs tend to have an effect a couple of weeks after regular administration. As for the anxiety evoked by public speaking, there is no consensus on which type of medication is most helpful. Commonly, benzodiazepines and Beta-blockers are used to temporarily provide relief before one gives a talk.
