Hello Fernando, I use a number of antiepileptic medications in my practice, as many of them are of use in bipolar disorder. Though, I do not use them in stuttering. I am not that familiar with levetiracetam, as it is not routinely used in bipolar disorder. I have not read the case report regarding levetiracetam you mention, but it is interesting. Does the paper report if the patient had acquired or developmental stuttering? Antiepileptic medications have many different mechanisms of action, and some benzodiazepines are used in stuttering. As for the newer ones, like levetiracetam, lamotrigine, oxcarbazepine the mechanism of action in-vivo is not well understood. If neurologists observe more instances of alleviation of stuttering in their epileptic patients, controlled studies of these medications in stuttering would be warranted.
