Hello Laura, This isn’t a silly question. In Alzheimer’s disease, the pathology is typified by generalized atrophy of the brain. With this atrophy, dopaminergic neurons can be destroyed. However, the main neurotransmitter associated with Alzheimer’s disease is acetylcholine. There is no association between developmental stuttering and Alzheimer’s disease, but patients with this type of dementia are at risk for acquired stuttering.
