Alan, Thanks for your question. Similar to your comments, ASHA’s recent technical report on telepractice noted the benefits of providing clinical services in a natural environment. The web camera did allow our meetings to be held in a more natural home setting. We found that this facilitated rapport building with the family and improved clinician accessibility. However, our findings did not speak to the levels of speech performance during the web-conference meetings. The child's level of performance was actually measured at our in-person meetings. The meetings that were held via the web-camera were primarily used to monitor and facilitate the family's ability to implement speech change and to troubleshoot any problems/questions that came up.
