Keiko, yes, there are differences between email and web cam. Email is fine and I still use it when appropriate. I also use instant messaging. However, the web camera allows visual contact which is obviously more personal. We can monitor speech movements since we have a camera that can pan and zoom. All three are useful but the visual contact is really the best. I believe that the web camera does accelerate improvement. Again, when you can visually monitor speech movements you have a big advantage than if you are just using audio or writing. I might also add that we use the instant messaging feature frequently as well. For example, if the parents and I decide to chat late in the evening we may not wish to "dress professionally" for visual contact! Therefore, instant messaging allows us to converse, answer questions, or whatever without having to worry about appearance. The computer is a wonderful tool that offers many possibilities for therapeutic innovation. Thanks for writing.
