Laura- thanks for your comments. As I'm sure many other SLPs around the world have done, I've had the opportunity to correspond with a variety of people the past few years who seem to be in situations that are similar to Miodrag's. That is they are students who have access to computers in places around the world; they are unable to find anyone locally who can provide any reasonable help. As Kevin pointed out, that is also too often the case in the U.S. // I enjoy the correspondence I've had with all of these people but it's frustrating because I am unable to have a sense of timing and insight about so many of the things I'm sensitive to during a real time (face-to-face)meeting. While the therapeutic alliance may be present it's more abstract and lacks the intensity and timing of a traditional therapeutic session. Still, to the degree that you can respond to questions and get the person to consider alternative ways of thinking and experimenting with their situation (and their communication efforts) I think the experience can be useful.
