Hi Carolyn, Yes, support from family and friends can make all the difference in the world. In my case this is hard to answer, because my family did not live nearby, so I didn't tell them right away. (Remember the shame thing?) My friends who knew were very supportive, but didn't treat me any differently. Some didn't know because my conversation is quite fluent. I didn't tell them unless I had to. (I can tell you some interesting stories about how I disclosed it in certain circumstances, but that's for another day!)
