Thank you for your wonderful paper! I can identify with many of the struggles you endured growing up, as someone who also stuttered as a child. I definitely remember the torment of being called upon to read in class and having to deal with the occasional stinging remarks classmates made about my speech. Although my parents now admit that I used to stutter (I seem to have “grown out” of the majority of my dysfluencies), they never made any mention of it at the time and I was never encouraged to see a speech pathologist. As a postbaccalaureate student studying speech pathology, I now realize that early intervention could have been very influential had my stuttering persisted. What is your opinion on whether parents should draw attention to their child’s mild-moderate stuttering? Do you think there are ways to help ease the notion of being “different” so that children will not dread visits to the school’s speech therapist? All the best, Erin Terzian
