Nice historical, comprehensive overview of assistive devices for stuttering, Larry. I don't know about you, but I think it would be rather distinctive to walk around with a Muthonome all the time. I guess if the rhythm effect ever wore off, a stutterer could simply strum on its harp-like strings and sing. Considering this alternative function, shouldn't the Muthonome be listed under the "Combined/Multiple Feedback Devices" heading? In any event, it sure would be wonderful if we could track down examples of all the devices mentioned and preserve them for posterity. We could even borrow from Wingate's terminology and call it "A Small Museum of a Curious Disorder". Anyway, I seem to recall that Sidney Bluemel bequeathed his collection of historical stuttering artifacts to the University of Denver. At some point, I'll have to arrange an opportunity to see them first hand. I'll let you know if I come across anything interesting.
