Yet another good question, Lauren. We have yet to fully understand how the devices facilitate fluent speech, and there may be different factors that affect initial as well as long-term response to any particular device across various individuals. We don't have the research data at present to predict long-term efficacy patterns for any of the devices, although the information is beginning to trickle in. You also asked about popularity. The introduction of the SpeechEasy device into the marketplace sparked a great deal of consumer interest in the AAF device in general. As to price of the various AAF devices, it varies widely. A few MAF & DAF devices are available in the $700 to $1000 (U.S. Dollar) price range. As devices increase in features offered (such as combined DAF/FAF) or devices decrease in size and visibility, price generally climbs. At the time I wrote this reply, the Casa Futura Pocket Fluency system device was over $2000; the Fluency Master was around $3000, and the SpeechEasy devices start at a little over $3000 for the basic BTE model and climb to $5000.00 for the advanced CIC model.
