Thanks, Bob, for bringing this up. In a perfect world, this paper shouldn't have been written, as a therapist without empathy, is not a therapist to me. How can a doctor who's trying to find out what's wrong with the child, only talk to the mother or talk to the child in a harsh voice? How can a gynacologist perform a cancer test without realizing this is quite an operation, both mentally and physically? I (PWS) just came home from an SLP congress in Croatia where I was the only "patient" among 250 SLPs talking about the person behind the stutterer. I was very touched by the amount of questions and by so many SLPs coming to me afterwards thanking me for finally getting an insight in mind and emotions. Yes, PWS CAN help. We can try to get inte the SLPs shoes and realize it can be hard for them to understand what it's like and not expect a quick fix and tell our story. And if SLPs are willing to take their time to listen and try to imagine what it's like to be so frustrated over not being able to get the words out, I think we can do magic together. Thanks again for bringing this up. I hope all SLPs and PWS will read this paper as we need to help each other to find mutual understanding.
